International Summer School 2021

26 July - 07 August 2021

Introduction

We are pleased to announce details of our regular international summer school program for 2021, which will take place at the EDEN studios in Berlin. The two-week Summer School comprises four workshops given by arthaus.berlin International Training and Research Centre and the Thomas Prattki Centre for Integral Movement and Performance Studies.

You can choose which workshops to take part in, and each of the workshops gives you an insight into different aspects of our movement-based pedagogy for performing arts practitioners interested in creating their own work. Whether you are a performer, director, writer for the stage, or a practitioner with a different artistic background – if you are interested in creating original work within a collaborative setting, we hope to offer you an environment for creative practice and encounters with fellow artists from around the world.

Workshops 1 and 2

The Practice of Embodiment 1

26-28 July 2021 : Monday – Wednesday

10:00 – 16:00 (inclusive of a 1-hour lunch break)

The workshop introduces participants to a creative, movement based practice which aims at a deeper dialogue between the human body and the surrounding natural environments. Exploring the visible movement dynamics within nature such as elements, seasons and animals allows not only for a more poetic and less objectifying approach to the natural world, but also for a discovery of the natural worlds and their creative forces within ourselves.

The Practice of Embodiment 2

29-31 July 2021: Thursday – Saturday

10.00 – 16.00  (inclusive of a 1-hour lunch break)

The workshop explores the relationship between the human body in movement and the  dynamic structures, opposing forces and dramatic composition within music, painting and poetry.  It aims to foster the ability of the creator/deviser of original work to develop an embodied understanding and a somatic experience of fundamental movement dynamics we find in nature and art which can be applied to any other form of performative expression.

Price: 350€ for both workshops, 200€ for one

Both workshops offer a good introduction to our full-time certificate or Masters Program in Devising Theatre and Performance.

Workshops 3 and 4

Working with Archetypal Images

02-04 August 2021: Monday – Wednesday

10:00 – 16:00 (inclusive of a 1-hour lunch break)

The workshop introduces a movement-based approach to archetypal images and motifs which explore the different dynamics of the creative (life)process. Through use of the Neutral Mask participants are invited to make contact with these powerful images and how they can be of use for the development of our artistic and personal creativity, whether we are at the beginning of our creative journey or already well on our way as experienced practitioners.

Of Dreamweavers and Mythmakers

05-07 August 2021: Thursday – Saturday

10.00 – 16.00 (inclusive of a 1-hour lunch break)

The workshop explores the process of individuation as the lifelong process of developing ones own unique creative potential. Through moving, painting, sculpting and writing, through masks, myths and fairy tales participants are invited to make contact with their creative intuition and memory and listen to the already existing collective myths underneath our skin as well as to our personal myth/s in the making.

Price: 350€ for both workshops, 200€ for one

Workshop 3 offers a good introduction to our full-time certificate or Masters Program in Devising Theatre and Performance (DTAP), and workshop 4 allows participants interested in the MA/MFA or certificate program in Integral Movement and Performance Practice (IMPP) to get an initial insight into the process of the IMPP program.
