In light of the recent developments around the world due to the global pandemic of COVID-19, here at arthaus.berlin we want to update you about our 2020-2021 season.
We still intend for the season to go ahead as planned – however, we will have a delayed start. Our 2020-2021 season for the full-time programs Devised Theatre and Performance/ Embodied Dramaturgy will now start on November 9th 2020.
A large proportion of our students, on both full-time and short courses, travel to us in Berlin from all over the world. The pandemic is affecting different parts of the world at different times and in differing intensities. Although things are now relaxing and reopening here in Germany, the current global travel, quarantine and border situation is still relatively restricted – in some countries, many government offices are still closed and might remain so for a few weeks.
In response to this, we have decided to delay the beginning of our 2020-2021 season full-time programs by 6 weeks. This allows the current closures, delays and uncertainties around the world due to the pandemic further time to change; and it gives our incoming cohort more time to book travel, seek accommodation and obtain visas from currently closed embassies – we are of course concerned that once things reopen, there may be big delays in processing for our non-EU students.
We have re-arranged our term dates in order that we can still offer a full academic season (28 weeks) which will finish in June 2021. This means we now have shortened term breaks and have shifted our rehearsal curriculum to allow for more teacher-led weeks.
We are happy to answer any questions you may have about this delay – we feel it is important to sustain our commitment to our global cohort as well as our EU based students. Please get in touch if you would like more information, either pedagogical or logistical.
Naturally, as necessary and in accordance with official guidelines, which change regularly, we will also implement any additional measures for all our students relating to hygiene, group size, social distancing in the studio, mask-work and partner-work, and so on.
Update: 2020 International Summer School – we have now re-structured this as a series of online workshops – details can be found here !
